Overdrive Underground radio station's logo

I love supporting underground artists as well as discovering them, so I was keen to follow this station for awhile and see what I could find. When I first tuned in, the music in the background was awesome! Unfortunately, it was near impossible to hear with the two radio hosts blabbering on about nonsense and irrelevant banter. If you’re going to talk over awesome trance and house tracks, please make it vital information that I need to hear!

Here’s an example from the radio hosts: “In 1926 Babe Ruth blasted a home run over the roof of Tiger station in Detroit.”

I love random factoids just as much as the next guy but please shut up so I can hear the tunes! Do all radio hosts out of Chicago do this to their listeners? It’s really sad that I am still listening, trying to deafen their voices because the music they’re playing in the background is right up my ally. In fact, I started wondering if I should just go to the website, get the track list, and get the music downloads for free online.

After 20 minutes of praying for the hosts to shut up, they granted my wish. Phew, now the music – which is the point of listening right?

First audible track (not just in the background) they introduced as a new release from Elliptical Recordings artist Crystal Peak called Energy of the Sea. And it’s worth all the wait. Beautiful and light trance song that will easily set you adrift. Very peaceful. It’s what uplifting trance is all about. Think Above & Beyond… but even more ambient.

This is followed by a more techy track, but still enjoyable. But guess what, the happiness is short lived. After 3 tracks, the hosts are back. Before I give up, they go back to the music with another Elliptical Records underground artist. The track is called I Wish I Could and it’s by Eight Gates & Axel Polo featuring Perfect Me. I love it. Very nice trance with female vocals.

I love the station’s taste in music but I have to be honest here. If you want 75% talk show and 25% awesome music, then I suggest tuning into Overdrive Underground. You can even check out the station’s website here: Overdrive Underground. But if you dislike radio hosts and are all about the tunes, this isn’t your station.
