The 1970s was responsible for so many historical moments and dramatic shifts in the socio-political environment that is hard to believe that there was time for outrageous fashion, fondue dinner parties, slasher horror films and the demise of a U.S. President. The popular music of the times were glam rock, art rock, progressive rock, punk rock, heavy metal, hip hop and reggae. Today when people reminisce about the decade that sensible shoes forgot they think mainly of disco.
Sky FM has one such man that remembers the times just the same. DJ Jimi King is chief programmer for the All Hits 70s radio station and he is responsible for the musical content. He is highly experienced as he spent his youth as a DJ in the British club scene from the release of Saturday Night Fever until the its death two years prior to the release of sequel Staying Alive.
Dont worry kids it is groovy times ahead if you like the funky tracks of the disco salad days. The Bee Gees, The Jacksons, Quincy Jones, Dr Hook, The Whispers and The Average White Band highlighted my time online and poured out the good times with a touch of cheese. Be aware after listening to this station for to long that your vision may turn to soft focus. Perhaps it might benefit you to write down the list of free music downloads you want as soon as you hear them played, to avoid falling victim to short-term memory loss.
Also there is enough good rock to break up the disco supplied by artists such as The Eagles, The Beatles and Lynyrd Skynyrd. One thing odd is that the music is not entirely from the 1970s with some tracks from the late 1960s and early 1980s included in the play list, which is a first for me when listening to a structured radio format. Jimi King sounds like a man that doesn’t follow the rules and this adds to a good, fun and funky radio station that supplies hits and memories for those that remember and those that need a hand.
